The shapes with the 1 finger on the lowest tone are the most workable. Test them all. Move them to every position, making sure you know what the tone names are in each position.
- Fret each of the shapes, muting all of the strings with x’s. Muting is discussed in the video.
- Move them around, proving that our shapes on the left work well, and the ones on the right are less usable as shapes which are strum-able.
These rhythmic octaves can be used in solos. They are commonly used in Jazz and Rock. And, can be used as rhythm parts in any style of music [the first four are the most common – 31, 42, 53, and 64].
