Our Goal = Play the C Major Scale in this Order
In this training video, I’m playing the C Major scale, single tone 8th notes, alternate picking, metronome set at 102. Play it with me, once up to this speed.
This is scale pattern 54 of our 7 Majors System and is played in alpha-tone order (lowest root → highest in pattern → lowest in pattern → back to starting root).
We start on the lowest C, play to the highest tone [high G] in P1 [position one], then descend to the lowest [Low E], then back to the C [where it all began]. This pattern can also be used as a basis for reading music – we learn the naturals first.
Apply the picking list, if needed. Ultimately we want to play it single tones down-up (alternate picking), and increase the tempo, always comfortably in control. Once comfortable, say the tone names as you pick them, ascending and descending.
Then, as with all tone sets, we improvise.
