2D Chord Scale in C
Let’s put 2ndary Doms to work. We will play the C Major chord scale, but between each chord, we will add the V of the chord which follows.
Play the chord scale by following the arrows.
Start on CMaj7, then V/ii-ii, then V/iii-iii, and so on. Strum or fingerpick. Try it in these different ways:
- Start with any voicing you know of each chord
- Use only/all triads
- Triads for the chords in C, but Dominant 7s for 2Ds
- Use our voicings below
With these voicings, we can see common tones. We can also drop the 2 string, so the voicing is just 6-4-3 strings (some of them will naturally be triads – depends on the chord configuration).
Our goal is to continue expanding our chord catalog, keep tuning our ear to new sounds. For any/every key, we create a personalized harmonic palette (voicing specific) of outside and inside chords.
